Help inside the app
LocalScribe has a full Help section built in: from the main screen, swipe left to Settings (or tap the gear icon top-right), then tap Help. It covers recording, summaries, references, speaker labels, exporting, iCloud sync, locked folders, and the Apple Watch remote — and includes an on-device assistant that answers questions about the app.
Common questions
- Does my audio leave my device? Recording always runs on-device. On-device transcription is also free and works offline; cloud transcription via Deepgram Nova-3 is a separate per-recording opt-in.
- What do paid tiers add? Paid-tier AI summaries (Claude Opus 4.8) on every recording, with multi-pass verification, plus cloud-powered features like Audit for Accuracy, Study Sources, Tone & Nuance, and Smart Search. Starter includes 10 hours of cloud features per month; Pro includes 30 hours. Cloud summaries send transcript text only — never audio. Two features (cloud transcription via Deepgram, and Tone & Nuance via OpenAI) DO send audio when you turn them on. Every cloud path is opt-in per recording. Manage or cancel anytime in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
- Where are my recordings? Inside the Library (swipe right from the main screen, or tap the books icon). The main screen now shows upcoming calendar events, the record button, and a count link into the Library — the full list lives in the Library.
- Can I edit the AI summary? Yes. Tap the Edit Everything button (purple/pink pencil-square icon, leftmost in the toolbar) inside a recording to edit the title and the entire summary. Saving updates the Library and the auto-re-exported PDF in your iCloud Drive.
- Can I lock a folder? Yes — long-press the folder, choose Lock with Face ID. Opening it (and removing the lock) requires Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode.
- I opened a recording offline and it took forever. That was an old bug — fixed. The PDF, transcript, and summary now load immediately offline; the audio downloads from iCloud in the background and the playback bar appears once it’s local.
- Why won’t a recording start? Check that LocalScribe has microphone permission in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.
- My recordings aren’t syncing. Make sure iCloud is on for LocalScribe (iOS Settings → your name → iCloud) and that all devices use the same Apple ID.
